An agreement was signed on the implementation of the project of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Program "GEF-8 Program in Uzbekistan to support the updating of National Strategies and Action Plans for the Conservation of Biodiversity (NBSAP) and the 7th National Report".

The document was signed by Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov and Director of the UNDP Nature Hub Midori Paxton during participation in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh.

The aim of the project is to support Uzbekistan in revising and updating the NBSAPs to bring them into line with the recently agreed Kunming-Montreal Global Framework Program (GRP) in the field of biodiversity and ensure effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the GRP at the national level.

In addition, the project supports the republic in the preparation and submission of the 7th National Report on the implementation of these documents. Its implementation is planned from November 2024 to July 30, 2027.

For information: In 2023-2024, UNDP supported Uzbekistan in setting new national biodiversity conservation goals. Then the republic became the first country in Central Asia to officially publish them under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
