Information on 5 sites of the national natural heritage of Uzbekistan (Zaamin, Hissar, Shakhimardan Mountains, Sarmishsai petroglyphs, Baysun area) has been updated in the list of UNESCO preliminary nominations, as well as two new sites (Kugitang Mountains and Nuratinsky mountain range) have been added.

The nomination dossiers have been prepared and submitted by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change through the National Commission for UNESCO.

It should be noted that the last time the preliminary list of Uzbekistan was updated was in 2008. After a 16-year break, information about the Zaamin, Hissara and Shakhimardan Mountains, Sarmishsai petroglyphs and the Baysun area in the preliminary list of national natural heritage sites has been updated. At the same time, according to UNESCO criteria, the data of the preliminary list should be updated every 10 years.

The Sarmishsai petroglyphs and the Baysun area are included in the UNESCO preliminary list as mixed, that is, as objects of natural and cultural heritage, and the Kugitang Mountains and the Nurata mountain range are included in the UNESCO preliminary list as new objects of national natural heritage.

Considering that the nomination dossiers for the list of preliminary nominations submitted by the Republic of Uzbekistan were prepared in accordance with the practical instructions of the UNESCO Convention of 1972, the UNESCO World Heritage Center highly appreciated the work and sent a congratulatory letter to Uzbekistan expressing gratitude.

It is worth noting that the reflection of national natural heritage sites in such a significant international list has become one of the important events in the history of the country. Such results are of great importance in popularizing the country's natural monuments among the world community, and also contribute to further increasing the national tourism potential.
