On August 14, the Russian government extended the ban on gasoline exports until the end of 2024. The Cabinet of Ministers explained the decision by the need to maintain a stable situation during the period of seasonal demand and scheduled repairs at oil refineries.

"From September 1 to December 31, 2024, Russia will again have a temporary restriction on gasoline exports. The resolution on this has been signed. The decision was made to maintain a stable situation in the fuel market during the period of continued seasonal demand and scheduled repairs carried out at oil refineries," the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation says.

The restriction will not apply, among other things, to supplies within the framework of international intergovernmental agreements, including the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, to fuel exported by citizens for personal use, as well as to fuel exported for international humanitarian assistance, reports Interfax.ru.

Currently, Russia has a temporary ban on gasoline exports imposed by the government from March 1 to August 31, 2024. From May 20 to the end of July, the ban was suspended due to saturation of the domestic market with automotive gasoline and to prevent a decrease in oil refining volumes by individual enterprises.

Since the beginning of June, stock prices for gasoline have begun to rise against the background of an active demand season during the holiday period. Against this background, regulators began talking about the need to resume the ban on gasoline exports, and for a longer period - until the end of October, so that the fuel market could painlessly survive both peak demand for petroleum products in August and autumn scheduled refinery repairs.

The practice of banning the export of fuel has previously shown its effectiveness, thanks to it, the domestic market can be quickly saturated.
