The incidence of cancer and cancer-related deaths among men worldwide will almost double by 2050. This is evidenced by the results of a study by Australian scientists published in the journal Cancer of the American Cancer Society.

According to the forecast, the number of cancer cases among men will increase by 84%, from 10.3 million cases in 2022 to 19 million in 2050. At the same time, mortality during this period will show an almost twofold increase of 93%: from 5.5 million to 10.5 million people. The researchers base their forecasts on statistics from 185 countries and territories on 30 types of cancer detected in 2022, TASS reports.

According to them, lung cancer will remain the most common type of oncology in 2050. At the same time, the death rate from prostate cancer will show the greatest increase - by 136%. Scientists associate this trend with the aging of the male population of the planet and an increase in life expectancy.

Men are more likely to get cancer than women because they drink alcohol and smoke more, according to the study. It is noted that men are also often exposed to harmful substances at work and are not so actively diagnosed with cancer.

To reduce the risk of cancer, you should stop smoking, limit alcohol intake, get enough sleep, as well as exercise and give preference to fruits and vegetables in the diet, scientists emphasize.
