The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has transferred new IT equipment worth about 50 thousand US dollars to the Agency for the Development and Regulation of the Energy Market of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The equipment includes computers, printers and telecommunications equipment to support agency staff in carrying out the next stage of reforms in the energy sector in accordance with the Presidential Decree of September 2023.

In his welcoming speech, Edward Michalski, Acting Director of the USAID mission in Uzbekistan, stressed the importance of effective regulation of the energy sector, which is necessary to ensure reliable electricity supply and attract private investment necessary for modernization and expansion.

"USAID is proud to cooperate with Uzbekistan, helping to strengthen the legal and institutional framework for effective regulation by promoting the development of primary and secondary legislative structures. We believe that the Agency can ensure further liberalization of the energy sector, reliable electricity supply, attracting the necessary investments and protecting the interests of consumers, while contributing to sustainable development," he said.

This equipment will increase the efficiency of the daily work of all Agency employees, allowing them to manage regulatory processes more effectively. In turn, this will contribute to the creation of a more integrated and operational regulatory framework in the sector.

USAID will continue to support the Agency as a technical consultant, as well as in developing and updating critical regulatory documents and conducting further training and consultations, developing this productive partnership.

The supply of equipment was made possible thanks to the leading USAID regional energy project "Energy of Central Asia". The project with a total budget of 39 million US dollars, designed for five years, is being implemented in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to improve the activities of the energy sector, accelerate the development of environmentally friendly energy sources, as well as increase energy security and sustainability by expanding regional interconnectedness and cross-border electricity trade.
