The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) gathered representatives of state organizations and civil society organizations of Uzbekistan, international organizations and international experts to share best practices in combating and preventing gender-based violence (GBV) at the international conference "Integrated Gender Approach as an effective means to achieve gender equality".

The conference highlighted progress and identified continuing challenges in efforts to eradicate GBV and promote gender equality.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has made significant efforts towards achieving gender equality and countering gender-based violence. In April 2023, the Government of the country criminalized domestic violence against women and took measures to punish those responsible. This step represents an important achievement in ensuring the protection of women's rights in Uzbekistan, making the country a safer place for women and girls to live.

USAID confirms its commitment to support the people and Government of Uzbekistan in preventing and countering gender-based violence in the country. Gender-based violence is seen as a violation of human rights, a public health problem and a barrier to women's political and economic participation in society.

With a priority focus on prevention, USAID and its partners are investing in programs aimed at addressing the root causes of gender-based violence in family and interpersonal relationships, as well as in society.
