Uzbekistan is stepping up international cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection

    Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov held a number of meetings with ambassadors of foreign states in Uzbekistan in order to strengthen further cooperation to solve urgent environmental problems.

    At a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan Won Do Yong, the Minister noted a new level of cooperation between the two countries and stressed the successful completion of a joint project with KEITI to improve the solid waste management system in Uzbekistan. The prospect of implementing a joint project with Sejin G&E Co. Ltd on the production of alternative electric energy from landfill gas generated at landfills of household waste was also noted.

    During the meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to Uzbekistan, Muhammad Adil Embarsh, the Uzbek side expressed interest in developing cooperation in the field of tourism and simplifying the visa regime between the two countries. The issues of concluding a memorandum of understanding for the development of cooperation in the field of environmental protection within the framework of participation in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) were also discussed.

    Within the framework of a bilateral meeting with the Charge d'affaires of Georgia in Uzbekistan, David Kotaria, an agreement was reached on cooperation between the two countries in the field of studying existing legislation, mechanisms for environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment, management of protected natural territories and the development of ecotourism, studying international requirements for the creation of the Aarhus Center. Issues of cooperation in the field of higher education in the field of ecology were also discussed. In this direction, the Georgian side was invited to involve teachers and professors to conduct lectures, seminars and trainings at the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change (Green University) and the International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage "Silk Road" in Samarkand.

    At a farewell meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to Uzbekistan Amira Fahmy, who is completing her mission in our country, the Uzbek side provided information on the ongoing reforms in the field of ecology and environmental protection in the country. In particular, it was noted that to combat environmental problems, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a number of environmental initiatives were launched, including a campaign for afforestation on the bottom of the Aral Sea on an area of 2 million hectares, the implementation of the national project "Yashil Makon" ("Green Space"), the creation of a Climate Center under the President and others. Gratitude was also expressed for the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt in the environmental field and the importance of sharing experience in the implementation of environmental projects was emphasized.

    All the meetings held demonstrated Uzbekistan's desire to expand international cooperation in the field of environmental protection and combating climate change. Strengthening joint efforts with foreign partners, the implementation of environmental projects and the exchange of best practices will contribute to improving the environmental situation in the region and ensure the sustainable development of the country.
