To discuss this initiative and promote Uzbekistan's candidacy, on May 13 this year, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and Chairman of the Tourism Committee Umid Shadiyev met with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Tashkent from foreign countries.
It was noted that Uzbekistan's nomination for the post of chairman is seen as recognition of the country's consistent reforms in the field of tourism, practical steps to strengthen regional cooperation, as well as its contribution to the development of sustainable and inclusive tourism.
As Chairman, Uzbekistan plans to promote new initiatives aimed at popularizing Central Asia as a single tourist space, developing cross-border routes, widespread adoption of digital solutions, and strengthening regional dialogue within the UN World Tourism Organization.
The United Nations European Commission on Tourism includes 41 countries in Europe, Central and West Asia. The Commission plays an important role in shaping tourism policy in the European region, strengthening regional cooperation and developing sustainable and inclusive tourism.
The 71st meeting of this commission will be held on June 4-6, 2025 in Baku, Azerbaijan Republic. During this meeting, it is planned to hold the election of the Chairman of the United Nations European Commission on Tourism for 2025-2027.
