The European roe deer is widespread in Europe and Asia. In summer it lives on meadows and mountain slopes, in winter it descends into valleys. It usually brings two cubs, less often three. It feeds on leaves and branches of trees, berries, lichens. The body length of the female reaches 140 cm, height at the withers - up to 90 cm, weight - up to 55 kg. Males are somewhat smaller, have a short tail and small horns with three, sometimes four short appendages.
This species has not been seen in the reserve for a long time - about 15 years. However, over the past four years, it has reappeared and started to multiply. To date, there are seven roe deer in the reserve.
For reference: The Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve was established in December 1947. About 1300 species of vertebrates and invertebrates live on its territory. Among the mammals here you can find mountain goat, roe deer, white-capped Tian Shan bear, Menzbir marmot, lynx, wolf, snow leopard and other species. Of these, 20 are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and two species - the snow leopard and the Mentzbir marmot - are included in the International Red List.
