The Senate discussed the state of cooperation with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia

    On February 13 of this year, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva met with Natalia German, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, the head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, who is completing her mission.

    During the conversation, the current state and prospects of cooperation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the UN and its specialized bodies, including the UN regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, were discussed.

    It was emphasized that President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in 2017 put forward constructive ideas and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and security, ensuring sustainable socio-economic development in Central Asia. These initiatives were presented as a holistic program at an international conference held in Samarkand on the theme "Central Asia: One past and a common future, cooperation for sustainable development and mutual prosperity." This served as the basis for organizing a consultative meeting of the heads of Central Asian States.

    Today, bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the States of the region is consistently developing in all spheres, in particular, between parliaments. It was noted that the first inter-parliamentary forum of Central Asian States, held on February 9-10 this year in the city of Turkestan of the Republic of Kazakhstan, contributed to strengthening strategic cooperation between the countries of the region and further enhancing the role of parliaments in this process.

    During the meeting, the Chairman of the Senate Narbayeva emphasized that during the mission of Natalia German, Uzbekistan's interaction with the regional center has significantly intensified, relations have reached a qualitatively new level.

    - In 2017-2022, in close cooperation with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Uzbekistan successfully implemented a number of important international initiatives and projects. We will continue close and constructive cooperation with the staff of the Center to strengthen relations of friendship and good neighborliness, to solve a number of urgent problems of a regional nature," the Chairman of the Senate noted.

    In turn, Natalia German focused on the results of socio-economic reforms carried out in Uzbekistan, emphasizing that it is thanks to the leading initiative of Uzbekistan that cooperation between the countries of Central Asia is seriously intensified. N. German stressed the key role of Uzbekistan, promoting the format of active cooperation and constructive discussion in the region in solving various issues between fraternal countries and the development of regional partnership.

    During the friendly and constructive dialogue, an exchange of views took place on the prospects for further strengthening cooperation aimed at solving global security problems, sustainable development, protection and promotion of human rights, as well as strengthening peace, the information service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
