The new enterovirus D68, which causes paralysis in children, is spreading rapidly in the United States. This is stated in the report of the wastewater control and monitoring organization.

According to the director of the organization, Alexandria Boehm, EV-D68 nucleic acids are found in wastewater throughout the country. Their level is increasing every day. In August of this year alone, the number of detected virus particles in U.S. wastewater increased by about six times.

EV-D68 causes damage to the nervous system and weakness in the limbs in children, often paralysis, Mir24 reports.

Currently, there are no treatments for this disease. Those who have been ill with the virus, even after undergoing a long-term course of intensive physiotherapy, remain disabled.
