The Central Election Commission held meetings with the OSCE/ODIHR Observer Mission and representatives of international organizations

    On October 24, the Central Election Commission held meetings with the Observer Mission for the elections of deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local Kengashes, as well as with representatives of international organizations.

    Chairman of the Central Election Commission Z. Nizamkhodjaev met with the Special Coordinator and head of the short-term OSCE Observer Mission, Chairman of the Main Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on Economic Issues, Science, Technology and Ecology Azai Guliyev.

    During the meeting, issues of preparation and holding of elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which will be held on October 27, 2024, were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the recommendations set out in the reports and conclusions of international organizations on the results of election observation in Uzbekistan into national legislation and practice, as well as improving the legal framework related to elections.

    In addition, detailed information was provided on the specifics of this year's elections based on a mixed electoral system, innovations such as the E-Saylov information system and its advantages, as well as the conditions created for women and people with disabilities.

    There was also a meeting with the Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Rajiv Kumar.

    During the talks, it was noted that cooperation between the Central Election Commissions of Uzbekistan and India is strengthening, and it was also stressed that the exchange of experience has been established within the framework of the Asian Association of Electoral Authorities, which is currently chaired by the CEC of India.

    In order to further expand cooperation, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Election Commission of India.

    As it was noted, projects on the exchange of experience and professional development in the field of the electoral process will be improved within the framework of the memorandum.

    The participants of the meeting, having familiarized themselves with the innovations in the electoral legislation, positively assessed the ongoing work to improve electoral procedures and expressed confidence that the upcoming elections will be held at a high organizational level in accordance with generally recognized international democratic principles.
