Clean Air month launched in Uzbekistan

    Environment 11 April 2023 1446

On April 10, the country declared the month of "Clean Air". The purpose of the event, held by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health, is to reduce vehicle emissions on the environment and human health, as well as compliance with the requirements of legislation on permissible air pollution.

In recent years, an increase in the number of manufacturing enterprises and cars has caused a significant increase in the amount of emissions into the atmosphere. This, in turn, contributes to an increase in the level of air pollution in the republic, especially in the city of Tashkent. According to the results of 2022, the capital took the 20th place in the rating of the International Air Pollution Index.

To date, there are about 4 million vehicles in the country, of which 100 thousand are defective. Of these, an average of 1.3 million tons of harmful emissions are emitted into the atmosphere per year, which is 63% of the total emissions (in Tashkent, this figure is 88%).

As a result of the daily increase in the number of vehicles, emissions in 2022 increased by 26.0 thousand tons compared to the previous year. The main reasons are the quality of the type of fuel used, insufficient use of public transport by the population, driving their own vehicles, insufficient attention of car owners to the technical parameters of their vehicle.

During the event, environmental control of the amount of harmful gases emitted into the atmospheric air by vehicles running on gasoline, diesel fuel, compressed natural and liquefied gas will be carried out in all road patrol points of the republic, on the central streets, with special equipment.

It should be noted that within the framework of the month, inspection points will be organized at 79 objects of the highway patrol, as well as mobile posts on the central streets of regions and cities, where 500 employees will be involved.

The event will last until May 10 of this year.
