According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic, in August-September 2022, the area of onion sowing in Uzbekistan amounted to 50.8 thousand hectares, garlic - 45.3 thousand hectares, according to EastFruit experts.
In addition, in November-December 2022, it is planned to sow onions on 103.7 thousand hectares and garlic on 47 thousand hectares by the "tucsonbost" method. The essence of this method is that the seeds remain in the ground under a dense "soil blanket" 90 days before the onset of spring, and germinate as soon as the sun warms them. The seeds of vegetable crops as a result of winter precipitation are saturated with soil moisture, take root and begin to germinate earlier than weeds at an air temperature of 4-5 degrees Celsius in early spring. With an increase in temperature to 18-20 degrees, a more rapid growth of culture begins. In general, the harvest of "tucsonbosti" is considered to be precocious, ripens 25-30 days earlier and with higher productivity - 14-15% higher per hectare.
Thus, for the harvest of 2023, in all categories of farms in Uzbekistan, it is planned to sow winter onions on 154.5 thousand hectares (of which, on 50.8 thousand hectares has already been carried out in August-September) and winter garlic on 92.3 thousand hectares (of which, on 45.3 thousand hectares - in August-September).
We remind you that in August-September 2021, in all categories of farms in Uzbekistan, the total area of winter onion and garlic sowing was 85.9 thousand hectares.
