In the UK, they decided not to "tease" France with the name of the new submarine

The British Navy has renamed a nuclear submarine to avoid conflict with France, LBC Radio reports.

The Astute-class submarine was renamed from HMS Agincourt to HMS Achilles.

As The Independent also notes, presumably the name was changed so as not to remind France once again of the victory of the British over the French in the 15th century at the Battle of Agincourt, after which the boat got its original name. She was supposed to be the sixth vessel to receive such a name, but the King of Great Britain has already approved the renaming.

The British Navy noted that the new name would be appropriate "in light of the upcoming World War II Victory Day celebrations in Europe and Japan," as boats with the same name participated in the Battles of La Plata in 1939, Britain's first major naval battle in World War II, and the Battle of Okinawa. transmits rbc.ru.
