The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan acquitted and rehabilitated 198 people who were victims of repression in 1920-1938

    As noted on the website of the Supreme Court, the victims were accused by the OGPU, later of counterrevolutionary and anti-Soviet activities and participation in the national liberation movement, the so-called "Basmachism" in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Tashkent, Ferghana, Khorezm, Bukhara, Jizzakh and Namangan regions.

    Recall that according to the Presidential Decree "On additional measures for a deeper study of the legacy and perpetuation of the memory of victims of repression" dated October 8, 2020, a Republican working group was established to further study the lives and activities of victims of repression, as well as to organize work to perpetuate their memory. informs Aktualno.uz.

    In addition, the working group made proposals to justify the names of victims of repression who were identified during scientific research and were not rehabilitated for any reason.

    According to the Supreme Court, on the basis of article 83 "Grounds for rehabilitation" of the Criminal Procedure Code, on April 6, 2024, the acquittal verdicts of the Judicial Board for Criminal Cases of the Cassation Instance of the Supreme Court were handed down against 198 persons in 11 criminal cases.

    It is worth adding that on August 25, 2023, the Supreme Court rehabilitated 240 people in 5 criminal cases who became victims of repression during the Soviet regime in 1929-1931.
