According to WHO, from January 1 to May 24, 2024, 194,897 cases of cholera were registered worldwide. 1,932 patients died.

Back in January 2023, WHO reported that it estimates the increase in the incidence of cholera in the world as a "third-class emergency". According to the results of May 2024, the organization, "based on information on the number of outbreaks of the disease in the world and their geographical distribution, as well as taking into account the shortage of vaccines and other resources, continues to assess the risk at the global level as very high."

The WHO also pointed out that the demand for cholera vaccines exceeds the volume of supplies. According to the organization, from January 2023 to May 2024, 16 countries requested 92 million doses, 49 million were produced during this period.
