According to official data, China’s population is shrinking for the fourth consecutive year amid a record-low birth rate, reported by Reuters.

Data from China’s National Bureau of Statistics shows that the country’s population fell by 3.39 million in 2025 to 1.405 billion. This decline is even sharper than in 2024.

Meanwhile, the number of births in 2025 dropped to 7.92 million, a 17% decrease from the 9.54 million recorded the previous year. At the same time, the number of deaths rose to 11.31 million, compared to 10.93 million in 2024. The birth rate fell to 5.63 per 1,000 people, while the death rate rose to 8.04 per 1,000-the highest level since 1968, reported by korrespondent.net.
