Vice
President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences He Huping and Director General of
the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography Zhang Yuanming spoke at the
opening of the event. They stressed that the launch of the new mechanism was
the practical implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of state
following the second Central Asia-China summit held in Astana in June 2025.
The main
purpose of the dialogue is to develop scientific cooperation between the
countries of the region, exchange research results, data from satellite remote
sensing of the Earth, as well as joint work on environmental protection,
combating land degradation, desertification and soil salinization. Special
attention is paid to identifying new promising areas of cooperation that
contribute to the sustainable development of Central Asia.
During the
meeting, the Chinese side highly appreciated the environmental policy pursued
in Uzbekistan and expressed appreciation for the active promotion of the
principles of "green" development. It was noted that the initiative
of President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping "Emerald waters
and green mountains are an invaluable treasure" is finding increasing
understanding and support in Uzbekistan, which consistently implements
large-scale reforms in the field of environmental protection and takes
comprehensive measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The
importance of opening the Central Asian Center for Ecology and Environmental
Studies in Tashkent on the basis of Green University with the support of the
Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography was also highlighted.
The
establishment of the center was another step in strengthening scientific
partnership between the two countries and recognizing Uzbekistan's leading role
in promoting regional environmental initiatives, developing international
cooperation and forming a modern scientific platform to address current
environmental and climate challenges.
