In the Canadian province of New Brunswick, more and more people are falling ill with an unknown brain disease. Hospitals are unable to cope with the influx of hospitalized people, and the authorities are at a loss.

The head of the province, Susan Holt, appealed to the Public Health Agency of Canada to investigate the frightening phenomenon, Mir24 writes.

"We need to conduct a thorough investigation of the reasons why people get sick... Not only do we not know how to identify, diagnose and treat it, we do not know what is causing it," Holt said.

Earlier, Michael Coulthart, who is called one of Canada's leading scientists, tried to explain the mysterious phenomenon. According to him, environmental exposure can trigger various neurodegenerative processes in people with improper protein folding, primarily in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

According to The Guardian, he also stated that he was forbidden to investigate the disease that affected residents of the province of New Brunswick. Later, another prominent scientist joined his words, he also said that 350 people were affected by this disease.

This is not the first time that an unknown disease in New Brunswick has been reported, which leads to memory loss, hallucinations and muscle atrophy. In the spring of 2021, it was also reported about the mass hospitalization of residents of the province affected by a mysterious illness.

According to experts, it is similar to the rare Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which causes damage to the cortex and subcortical centers of the brain and spinal cord. Cases of an unknown disease were also reported in 2020 and 2019. Patients complained of headaches, behavioral changes, and people suffered from depression and anxiety. Several deaths were noted. Experts do not exclude that the disease may be associated with poor ecology.
