According to the law, during martial law, with the written consent of the commander of a military unit, citizens over the age of 60 who are recognized as fit by the military medical commission can be accepted for contract service. Such contractors will be able to hold non-combat positions of enlisted, non-commissioned or senior staff, as well as junior or senior officers.
The term of the contract for them is one year, with the possibility of concluding new contracts. Officers of the appropriate age will be able to sign a contract after mandatory approval of the candidate with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The contract also establishes a two-month probation period for this category of citizens. If the military has not passed the probation period, the contract is terminated.
In case of termination or cancellation of martial law, such contracts are terminated prematurely.
Since February, Ukraine has been operating a program according to which young people aged 18-24 who are not subject to mobilization by age can voluntarily serve in the country's armed forces. Since the age of 25, it is mandatory to mobilize in Ukraine.
