The asteroid "safely" collided with the Earth: another, more dangerous one is flying to the planet

If the asteroid that fell to Earth on September 4 did not cause any consequences, then another asteroid with its size and speed causes some concern. According to scientists, an asteroid the length of a 60-storey building is much larger than many celestial bodies that usually fly near the Earth.

On Wednesday, September 4, an asteroid flew into the Earth's atmosphere. A small celestial body with a diameter of about one and a half meters burned down over the Philippines a few hundred kilometers north of Manila, writes newizv.ru.

The object, named 2024 RW1, was discovered the previous morning - about 11-12 hours before entering the Earth's atmosphere. According to experts, due to its small size (1.5-1.6 m), the asteroid belongs to meteoroids.

According to experts, the event that took place cannot be called out of the ordinary. Thus, two or three objects of this size fall to the Ground every year, and experts are increasingly able to detect them at an early stage.

For example, the first approaching asteroid was noticed by astronomers even before the fall in 2008. The current one, 2024 RW1, is the ninth accurately predicted asteroid impact on Earth.

Meanwhile, NASA recently warned about a massive asteroid (2024 ON), which is rushing towards Earth at an alarming speed. The length of the celestial body is the size of two football fields, and the width is at least 200 m, the New York Post clarifies.

It is predicted that the asteroid will fly past our planet on September 15 at a distance of about 998 million km, which is about 2.6 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. This is considered a fairly safe distance.

Experts note that such a convergence occurs on average once every 10 years.

However, its speed, estimated at about 40.2 thousand km per hour, adds to the concern, since even a small deviation in its path can lead to significant consequences.

Although the probability of a collision with Earth is currently considered low, the approach of the asteroid 2024 ON underscores the importance of constant vigilance and preparedness.
