Two Australians during a charter trip off Melville Island caught one of the rarest fish in the world - the great herring king, which is also called the "fish of the Doomsday." This is reported by the British newspaper Daily Mail.
Scientists have already evaluated the find, this is the first time they have heard that someone managed to catch such a fish in this area. Usually, only remains can be found on the shore, reports aif.ru.
The herring king can reach 11 meters in length. Individuals live at a depth of about 900 meters and rarely approach the surface of the water, so it is believed that the approach of such fish to the surface is a sign of imminent natural disasters.
The herring king was found off the coast of Japan before the earthquake in 2011.
