Uzbek citizens M.S. (born in 2000) and B.V. (born in 1997) applied to the Consulate General with a request for help in returning to Uzbekistan, saying that they had become victims of human trafficking in Myanmar.
According to them, they arrived in Thailand on the offer of a high-paying job on the Internet, and they were given a free flight from Uzbekistan. However, upon arrival in Thailand, they were fraudulently illegally transported to Myanmar, where they ended up in the hands of criminal groups engaged in human trafficking. There they were forced to work in fraudulent call centers. Refusal to perform illegal actions was accompanied by physical violence and threats. A large monetary compensation was required for their release and return to their homeland, according to the Dune news agency.
8 citizens of Kyrgyzstan and 4 citizens of Kazakhstan found themselves in a similar situation in Myanmar. Given the absence of a diplomatic mission of Kyrgyzstan in Thailand, the diplomats of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, at the request of the Kyrgyz side, assisted in organizing the return of these citizens to their homeland.
As a result of coordinated actions and negotiations with the competent authorities of Myanmar and Thailand, the citizens of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were released and handed over to the diplomats of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan at the border checkpoint of Maesot (Thailand), where they were provided with temporary housing and food.
On April 11, with the assistance of the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in Thailand, 2 citizens of Uzbekistan, 4 citizens of Kazakhstan and 7 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were successfully repatriated to their homeland.
This case is an example of the effective implementation of the principles of brotherhood, good neighborliness, strategic partnership and alliance between our countries, which has found practical expression in helping people.
The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Bangkok urges citizens to be vigilant when considering job offers abroad and carefully check the reliability of information sources.
