Le Figaro reported that the bill was supported almost unanimously at the Palais Bourbon. Deputies passed the bill in its first reading, aiming to restrict social media access for teens under 15.
The bill received support from 116 deputies, while 23 voted against it.
The author of the bill is Laura Miller, a deputy from President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance party. According to her, the goal of the legislation is to "protect the mental health of French youth" amid the growing influence of social media.
The text approved by parliament members is not just about banning social media use. It also includes a ban on using mobile phones in middle schools across France, reported by report.az.
