According to him, this measure will help eradicate corruption in the country, as reported by The Guardian.
On March 9, Michael Randrianirina unexpectedly dismissed the Prime Minister and the entire Cabinet, appointing Mamitiana Rajaonarison, the head of the anti-corruption agency, as the new Prime Minister. The selection process for these ministerial positions is currently ongoing. However, President Randrianirina stated that he and the Prime Minister would only consider candidates who have passed a polygraph examination, kommersant.ru reports.
The President said “We have decided to use the polygraph. With its help, we will test people for honesty. We will identify those involved in corruption, those who betray the ideals of the youth’s struggle, and those who can truly help us,”. He also noted that they are “not looking for someone with a 100% score, but the indicator should be at least 60%.” In his view, this will allow "Madagascar to finally develop."
Michael Randrianirina, the former head of the Personnel Management Corps of the Madagascar Army (CAPSAT), came to power in October 2025 following a military coup and was appointed as the transitional President. The coup occurred after large-scale protests by Madagascan youth that began on September 25. Participants initially protested against electricity and water supply interruptions, and later against corruption and poor governance of the country.
