    The Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) was approached by citizen M.P., who lost a large amount of money as a result of gullibility and carelessness.

    In the appeal, the citizen said that in December 2024, believing the persons who introduced themselves as employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service and the Central Bank, he transferred 170 thousand US dollars through cryptocurrency. To do this, he sold his car and his home, spent all his savings and even got into debt.

    In December 2024, citizen M.P. officially contacted the Cybersecurity Center, a criminal case was opened on this fact, and he was recognized as a victim.

    As a result of the joint review of the complaint, the Ombudsman appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As a result, the Cybersecurity Department recovered 115 thousand US dollars (1 billion 434 million 625 thousand soums) from the cryptomarket in favor of the victim.

    At the same time, the Ombudsman's office noted that there are many complaints about fraud, but in most cases it is not possible to return the stolen money. This highlights the need to be especially careful and prevent such situations in advance.

    In this regard, the Ombudsman calls on citizens:

    · do not trust people who call from personal numbers and pose as law enforcement officers or banks, as well as demanding payment or personal information.;

    · do not provide passport or ID data, plastic card data, PIN codes and SMS codes by phone;

    · immediately stop communicating and contact law enforcement agencies if unknown persons offer to transfer money through cryptocurrency;

    · Keep in mind that government agencies and organizations operate only through official channels, and in doubtful cases, double-check information using trusted numbers of institutions.

    The Ombudsman urges citizens, first of all, to be legally informed and vigilant.
