In particular, negotiations were held with Agi Veresh, Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Geneva, Alison Kilpatrick, Secretary of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, and Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) Tui Doane-Smith, as well as Matthias Klettermeier, a Human rights Officer at the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
During the meetings, the sides discussed issues of expanding international cooperation in the field of human rights, strengthening institutional dialogue, enhancing the role of national human rights institutions in the international arena, as well as developing regional and practical cooperation.
During the negotiations, the Ombudsman emphasized that ensuring human rights in Uzbekistan has become one of the priorities of state policy. It was noted that due to the ongoing reforms, the mechanisms for protecting citizens' rights and freedoms have been significantly improved, and the effectiveness of the Ombudsman's institution has increased significantly.
Special attention was paid to the issues of further improvement of the institute in accordance with the Paris Principles. It was noted that after the Global Alliance was awarded the "B" status in 2020, measures are being consistently implemented to strengthen the legal framework, expand the range of response measures, strengthen the activities of regional representatives, introduce digital solutions and create more transparent and convenient mechanisms for applicants.
The foreign partners, in turn, shared their recommendations, emphasizing the importance of further institutional development and intensification of international cooperation.
The meetings were held in a friendly and open atmosphere.
