President of Uzbekistan receives the Head of OSCE/ODIHR Mission

    On October 25, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Head of the election observation mission from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Douglas Wake.

    At the meeting, views were exchanged on preparing and holding the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.

    The established open and constructive dialogue between Uzbekistan and the OSCE and its institutions, particularly the fruitful cooperation with the ODIHR, was noted with satisfaction.

    The active work of the ODIHR observation mission in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections was highly appreciated. The ODIHR’s experts took part in improving the national electoral system. Most of their recommendations and proposals were considered and implemented in Uzbekistan’s legislation.

    The ODIHR representative sincerely thanked for the attention paid to the work of the mission and expressed support for the ongoing democratic transformations and socio-economic reforms in New Uzbekistan.

    It was emphasized that the current elections are being held for the first time under a mixed electoral system based on the provisions of the renewed Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, strengthening the role of parliament and local representative authorities.
