Recall that the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women is taking place at the UN headquarters in New York. The delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairman of the Republican Commission on Enhancing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and the Family Tanzila Narbayeva is also taking part in its work.

It should be noted that the Commission is a working body of the UN Economic and Social Council and is engaged in the development of international standards for the protection and promotion of women's rights, as well as proposals for their observance.

This year's session discusses accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls by addressing poverty, strengthening institutions and financing, and implementing the principles of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

The conference is attended by representatives of parliaments and authorities, ministries and organizations, non-governmental organizations and civil society institutions around the world, who are responsible for this area.

According to UN Women, today 10.3% of women worldwide live in extreme poverty. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, progress in poverty eradication must be 26 times faster.

Therefore, at the conference, governments and civil society organizations, experts and activists from around the world are focusing on developing actions and attracting investments that will help end women's poverty and increase gender equality.

In the process of preparing for this prestigious event, the UN Women structure took into account the numerous positive results of Uzbekistan over the past 5 years in terms of achieving gender equality, empowering women and, together with the Republican Commission on Enhancing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and the Family, held consultative sessions of Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan in Tashkent.

As a result of the event, a unified position was developed to support women and girls and their social protection.

At the 68th session, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis spoke on behalf of the Central Asian region and Azerbaijan and noted that today our countries are actively developing trade and economic cooperation, joint investment projects are being implemented, favorable conditions have been created for interaction in the field of gender equality, outlined common approaches to cooperation and put forward a number of initiatives.

In particular, in order to reduce poverty and create decent working conditions, it is proposed to take effective measures to protect women and girls at the global level within the framework of the UN initiative "Global Accelerator for Job Creation and Social Protection", to introduce a gender approach into curricula and teaching methods, as well as in STEM education, especially in rural areas.

It was also noted that it is necessary to streamline the regulatory framework to eliminate differences in the field of digitalization in the regions, which will help implement digital literacy and IT skills programs for vulnerable groups of the population, especially rural women, within the framework of UNDP projects.

The 68th session continues its work.
