On April 4 of this year, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Muhammadali Iskandari.

The current state and prospects for the development of relations between Uzbekistan and Iran were discussed, in particular, issues of further strengthening cooperation in the political, trade, economic and investment spheres, as well as inter-parliamentary ties.

It was emphasized that regular communication, mutual visits and meetings between the heads of state gave an important impetus to the further expansion of ties in various fields.

During the dialogue, it was emphasized that the trade turnover in 2023 amounted to $ 503.4 million, which completely does not correspond to the potential of the two countries, and it is necessary to consider the possibility of increasing this indicator several times.

It was noted that there are unrealized opportunities for cooperation in the field of transport logistics, medicine and pharmaceuticals, technical engineering, science and technology. Projects in this area are of equal interest to both sides.

Based on the fact that inter-parliamentary ties are a practical mechanism for further strengthening relations between the countries, an exchange of views took place on ensuring regular dialogues at the level of friendship groups and committees, and enhancing mutual visits. The importance of using the potential of parliaments in ensuring the implementation of mutual agreements reached at a high level was emphasized.

An agreement has been reached on the development of constructive cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

At the end of the meeting, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, the Ambassador assured that he would use all his knowledge and potential to implement long-term plans and projects.
