This international event is organized by the Parliamentary Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of National Goals and Objectives in the Field of Sustainable Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period up to 2030, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the Center for Sustainable Development, NGOs with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (Germany) in Uzbekistan.
The international round table was attended by Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Co-Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of National Goals and Objectives in the Field of Sustainable Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period up to 2030 Tanzila Narbayeva, senators and deputies of the Legislative Chamber, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, NGOs and other institutions of civil society and the academic community, the diplomatic corps in our country.
It should be noted that at the session of the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 2022, the resolution "On strengthening the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals", developed on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was unanimously approved.
On December 29, 2022, a joint resolution was adopted by the Kengash of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the implementation of this resolution. A joint resolution approved the Roadmap, which includes more than 50 specific measures in 13 areas. This Joint Resolution complies with the principle of "building a humane state by elevating human honor and dignity and further developing a free civil society", defined in the Development Strategy of the New Uzbekistan.
The Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis noted in her speech that an effective mechanism of parity of interests has been created to achieve the goals of sustainable development, parliamentary control has been established, in particular, a Parliamentary Commission has been established to monitor the implementation of national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development, and focused on its activities.
- Over the past period, the Parliamentary Commission has studied the state of implementation of national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development in the regions for 10 national goals, 51 tasks and 81 indicators.
According to the results of the studies conducted at the meetings of the Parliamentary Commission, information was heard from representatives of 28 ministries and departments, including the head of the Coordinating Council, and appropriate decisions were made," the Chairman of the Senate noted.
During the reports and discussions, experts stressed that the head of our state has made more than 10 initiatives at the UN General Assemblies over the past seven years to solve universal problems, and most importantly, all these initiatives were fully supported by the General Assembly, as well as the issue of the adoption of relevant resolutions.
Emphasis is placed on the issue of establishing practical cooperation between the parliament, the government and civil society institutions in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the organization of regular parliamentary and public hearings on this issue.
At the end of the round table, a ceremony was held to sign memorandums of cooperation between NGOs and government agencies to fulfill the tasks defined in the Joint Resolution of the Chambers of Parliament on measures to implement the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly of December 14, 2022 "On strengthening the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals".
