During the negotiations, the Uzbek side expressed interest in close cooperation on the implementation of joint projects in the field of green growth, biodiversity conservation, greenhouse gas emissions reduction and climate change adaptation, as well as in the field of monitoring and reducing air pollution, preventing sandstorms and combating desertification.
In turn, the Qatari side expressed interest in sharing experience in biodiversity conservation, in particular in the implementation of a project for the reproduction and release into the wild of a rare red book bird, the beauty bustard.
In addition, the parties discussed the issue of establishing cooperation between higher educational institutions of Qatar Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change (Green University) in the field of ecology, natural resource management and sustainable development.
It is worth noting that currently it is planned to create an intergovernmental agreement between Qatar and Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection. In this context, Uzbekistan is interested in in-depth study of the ecological and green experience of Qatar, as the two countries have an arid climate and face similar environmental and climatic problems.
For example, in the field of reforestation and combating desertification, Qatar is implementing the Ten Million Trees project until 2030. In the direction of adaptation and mitigation of climate change, the country has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030. The country also intends to improve air quality standards, indoor air quality standards in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization, and create a national air quality monitoring network.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on the organization of additional meetings between the environmental authorities of the two countries and a working visit of the Qatari delegation to Uzbekistan.
