During the visit, issues of expanding cooperation in the field of environmental assessment, improving environmental impact assessment systems, as well as strategic environmental assessment and ensuring carbon neutrality are discussed.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Center for State Environmental Expertise and the Environmental Institute of the Republic of Korea.
This memorandum provides for:
· improving the environmental impact assessment system;
· increasing the level of public participation and broad involvement of the public in the environmental decision-making process;
· expansion of cooperation through the implementation of joint projects in the field of strategic environmental assessment;
· development of mechanisms for bringing national legislation in line with international standards;
· implementation of pilot projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint;
· organization of training seminars on professional development;
· development of cooperation within the framework of the supported project concept
KOICA, "Strengthening the environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment system in Uzbekistan by improving the technological base and introducing advanced monitoring technologies."
It is expected that during the visit, effective environmental impact assessment mechanisms and strategic environmental assessment processes, effective legal frameworks for public access to environmental information and public hearings, as well as the creation of a single integrated digital data collection system in real time for environmental monitoring will be discussed.
In addition, the goal is to obtain the necessary information and gain experience in harmonizing national legislation in the field of environmental protection with international standards, study the experience of the Republic of Korea in reducing its carbon footprint, as well as create an effective system in this direction in Uzbekistan.
