Uzbekistan and the IAEA discussed cooperation in the field of nuclear technology

    Deputy Director General of the IAEA Liu Hua met with a delegation of Uzbekistan on the sidelines of the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

    It includes the heads of the Uzatom Agency, the Ministry of Energy and the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety.

    The parties reviewed the results achieved, current projects and plans for the use of nuclear technologies in various sectors of the Uzbek economy, including energy, medicine and agriculture.

    The IAEA representatives highly appreciated Uzbekistan's progress in the development of the national nuclear program and the active participation of the Government in this process, which creates a solid foundation for expanding the peaceful uses of atomic energy.

    Special attention was paid to the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, which is considered as a strategic element in ensuring the country's long-term energy security. Uzbekistan confirmed its interest in expanding technical cooperation with the IAEA for the successful implementation of this project.

    Following the talks, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for further cooperation and confirmed their readiness to continue dialogue and joint initiatives in the field of nuclear technology development.

    Uzbekistan intends to actively participate in international forums on nuclear energy issues and implement advanced solutions to ensure the safety and effectiveness of peaceful nuclear energy use.
