The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has posted on its official website an article on the accession of Uzbekistan and two other countries to international conventions in the field of nuclear safety.

The authors of the publication remind that within the framework of the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference, held in the Austrian capital, Uzbekistan and the international agency signed a Roadmap for cooperation, the Dunyo news agency reports.

An article published on this event notes that Uzbekistan has taken an important step by joining three key treaties at once: The Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, the Convention on Assistance in the Event of a Nuclear Accident or Radiation Emergency, and the Convention on Nuclear Safety.

According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the current decision was the result of the attention and support of our head of state, who promptly responded to the agency's proposal.

He also stated that Uzbekistan is actively promoting projects in the field of nuclear energy, including the construction of a large nuclear power plant and small modular reactors. In general, the country is successfully implementing large-scale plans in the energy sector.

The agency reported that in addition to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh have submitted accession documents. Kyrgyzstan has joined the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident and the Convention on Assistance in the Event of a Nuclear Accident or Radiation Emergency, and Bangladesh has joined the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Nuclear Fuel and Radioactive Waste Management.
