Uzbekistan has sent humanitarian aid to flood-stricken Afghanistan

    A caravan of trucks has arrived in the Balkh region of Afghanistan to provide humanitarian assistance to residents of the country affected by severe floods, the press service of the khokimiyat of Surkhandarya region reports.

    "In accordance with the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in order to provide assistance to the population affected by severe floods and floods in Afghanistan, provide them with the necessary funds and food, a caravan of humanitarian supplies was delivered on behalf of Uzbekistan through the Airitom checkpoint to the Balkh region of the neighboring country," the message says.

    Humanitarian aid included 48 tons of flour, 22 tons of rice, 44 tons of pasta, 25 thousand liters of vegetable oil, 100 thousand cans of canned food, 100 thousand bags of instant noodles, as well as 100 specially equipped tents for 10 people and 96 water storage tanks with a volume of 1000 liters.

    The ceremony of handing over humanitarian aid took place on the territory of the Astras company in Hairaton. It was attended by the Special representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev, the first deputy governor of Surkhandarya region Sherzod Rajabov and officials of the Balkh province of Afghanistan.

    Representatives of the Afghan side expressed gratitude for the assistance provided during a difficult time.

    Earlier, floods in Afghanistan caused the death of more than 300 people in Baghlan. Also in the northern province of Faryab on the night of Sunday, May 19, 66 people drowned, five more were injured, and eight were missing. The disaster also affected the Gor province in the central part of Afghanistan. According to the authorities, 55 people have died there as a result of floods since May 17.

    In addition, thousands of buildings were destroyed or damaged, extensive agricultural land was damaged, and dozens of cattle drowned.
