Uzbekistan is developing cooperation with ADB in the field of sustainable development and transition to a green economy

    The Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Bobur Khodjaev, Director of the Department for the Development of Public-Private Partnership Abdukodir Yakubov, Head of the Department for the development of the "green" economy Shokhzod Islamov.

    ADB was represented by the head of the ADB Representative Office in Uzbekistan Kanokpan Lao-Araya, Director of the Public Sector Management and Management Sector Hiranya Mukhopadyai, Chief Public Administration Specialist Hanif Rahemtullah, Senior Economics Specialist Bekzod Jalilov, Chief Economist for Public Administration Chidem Akin.

    The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss initiatives related to supporting Uzbekistan in the transition to a "green" economy. The plan provides for a wide range of measures in the areas of "green" financing, management of state-owned enterprises and public-private partnerships, planned for 2024-2026.

    These initiatives are part of the Uzbek Government's extensive plan to implement reforms aimed at achieving the country's strategic goal of transition to a green economy by 2030.

    The key areas of the reform program for the transition to a "green" economy in Uzbekistan are adaptation to climate change through the restructuring of state-owned enterprises and support for sustainable agriculture, mitigating the effects of climate change by developing strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as promoting a fair transition through professional development programs.

    After discussing further steps to implement the reform program, the parties agreed to continue negotiations to develop mutually beneficial and promising cooperation, the information service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance reports.
