In August-September 2023, Latvia became the main buyer of Uzbek onions

    In the last two months, Latvia has occupied the top line of the rating of buyers of Uzbek onions in terms of supplies, this country accounts for more than half of the exports of these products. Moreover, this season Latvia imported a record volume of onions from Uzbekistan, analysts at EastFruit say.

    According to preliminary trade statistics, in August-September 2023, Uzbekistan exported 3.2 thousand tons of onions, of which 1.8 thousand tons or 56% of total exports were delivered to the Latvian market.

    In the period under review, the rest of Uzbek onion exports were delivered to the markets of the following countries: Russia - 743 tons, Kyrgyzstan - 286 tons, Poland - 157 tons, UAE - 92 tons, other countries (Lithuania, Czech Republic, Georgia and Kazakhstan) - in the amount of 16 to 40 tons.

    Moreover, this season Latvia has updated the record for the import of onions from Uzbekistan. For 6.5 months from the date of lifting restrictions on the export of Uzbek onions - from mid-March to the end of September this year, Latvia imported 5.7 thousand tons of onions from Uzbekistan. The previous record was recorded in 2019, when 3.7 thousand tons of Uzbek onions were delivered to the Latvian market at the end of the year.

    In total, in March-September 2023, Uzbekistan exported 242.6 thousand tons of onions to the markets of 22 countries, Latvia's share in total exports in the period under review was 2.3%.
