Employees of the South Ustyurt National Nature Park under the Ministry of Ecology captured a flock of flamingos nesting on Sarykamysh Lake in the Kungrad district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Flamingos are migratory and breeding birds included in the IUCN Red List and the Red Book of Uzbekistan in the status of a vulnerable and declining species. These birds prefer large flat shallow salt lakes with marshy shores.

In Uzbekistan, they can be found on the southern shores of the Aral Sea and the Amu Darya basin, as well as in the Syrdarya region and on the coastal zones of the Zarafshan Valley.
