During the visit, the delegation took part in the photo exhibition "Uzbekistan's Contribution to the Liberation of Leningrad" and the screening of films of Uzbek cinema at the State Museum of Defense and Blockade of Leningrad, the Dune news agency reports.
The delegation also visited secondary school No. 193 of the Central District of St. Petersburg, where an open lesson on "What is people's diplomacy" was held and got acquainted with the culture and customs of Uzbekistan. A preliminary agreement has been reached with the administration of the educational institution on joint development of cooperation with secondary school No. 145 in Tashkent to strengthen cultural exchange and friendly ties.
Representatives of the SCO Center for People's Diplomacy also took part in the international conference "Tools of People's Diplomacy in the formation of interstate and interregional relations", which discussed mechanisms to enhance the role of people's diplomacy in the public life of the SCO member states.
The photo exhibition "Uzbekistan's contribution to the liberation of Leningrad" and the screening of the film "You are not an orphan" were attended by honorary guests from the government of St. Petersburg, elderly people who are blockade runners who are direct witnesses of the mentioned events of the war period. In their speeches, they shared their thoughts on the invaluable contribution of Uzbeks to the defense and liberation of Leningrad, the feat of Uzbeks who sheltered thousands of refugees during the famine years of the war, and how important it is to remember and honor the gesture of humanity and compassion of the Uzbek people.
The guests of the exhibition were able to get acquainted with archival photographs and documents provided by the National Agency "Uzarchiv" under the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, and watch a film about the participation of Uzbeks in the defense and liberation of Leningrad.
As part of the cultural program of the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition, national Uzbek musical compositions performed by compatriots were performed. The opening of the photo exhibition was covered by leading regional media.
During the visit, the delegation also held meetings with representatives of the Uzbek diaspora in St. Petersburg, took part in a round table by Uzbek students organized at the Uzbek Cultural Center at the Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University.
The director of the center, Kabuljon Sobirov, became a guest of the broadcast on Radio Petersburg dedicated to the opening of the photo exhibition "Uzbekistan's Contribution to the liberation of Leningrad".
