According to him, Central Asia, located in the heart of Asia, is a key transport and logistics hub between Asia and Europe, as well as a key security point.
Wang Yun jong stressed that as part of the implementation of the national task of the Yun Seok Yeong Government, which includes "building a network of regional cooperation for shared prosperity," Korea pays special attention to the Central Asia region in order to create and strengthen a mutually beneficial network of cooperation.
"Korea recognizes the strategic importance of Central Asia and is expanding cooperation in areas that strengthen the stability and sustainability of Korea and the Central Asian region. These are areas such as supply chains, transport and logistics, healthcare, climate change and education," stated the Secretary of the President of the Republic of Korea for Economic Security.
It was especially emphasized that to date, Korea and Central Asia have achieved breakthrough successes in various fields. Trade with the countries of the region has increased approximately 600 times in 30 years from $15 million in 1992 to $9.2 billion as a result of last year. The total volume of Korea's direct investments in Central Asia exceeded $6 billion.
It should be recalled that at the expert forum organized by ISMI in partnership with the Korean Center for International Regional Studies at the Hanguk University of Foreign Languages, a thorough exchange of views took place on the current situation in Central Asia, prospects for further development of economic cooperation and expansion of cultural and humanitarian dialogue between the Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea.
On the Korean side, the event was attended by Director of the Center for International Regional Studies Kang Jung Yong, Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Republic of Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum Lee Jung Guk, Secretary of the President of the Republic of Korea for Economic Security Wang Yun Jong, Special Rapporteur of the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea Om Narin, professors and experts of the Agency for Research Projects on national strategies, etc.
