WHO asks China to share data on an outbreak of pneumonia in children of unknown etiology

The World Health Organization (WHO) has made an official request to China due to the growth of respiratory diseases and reported clusters of pneumonia among children. This is stated on the organization's website.

In the north of China, an increase in the number of children with pneumonia was recorded. There is not enough data indicating the causes of the disease. So, the World Health Organization is trying to find out whether the disease is caused by the spread of influenza, SARS-CoV-2, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or mycoplasma pneumonia, writes runews24.

The Chinese authorities, in turn, said that the increase in the number of patients may be associated with the lifting of covid restrictions.

However, such explanations are not enough for WHO, so the organization turned to the Chinese authorities for epidemiological and clinical information and the results of laboratory studies on these foci through the mechanism of International Health Regulations.
