Belarus has officially become a member of the SCO

    The participants of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) signed a document at the Astana summit on July 4, according to which the Republic of Belarus became a full member of the organization.

    Thus, Belarus has become a full-fledged, tenth member of the SCO family. India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have a similar status in the organization, BELTA reports.

    "The decision on full membership of the Republic of Belarus in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has been made," Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev, who chairs the summit, said. In this regard, the Kazakh leader congratulated the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

    The SCO summit opened in Astana on July 4. Currently, the organization consists of 26 countries - 10 member States, 2 observers and 14 dialogue partners.
