On September 4, 2024, the CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism and the SCO RATS International Scientific and Practical Conference began working together for the first time in Tashkent.

The event was organized by the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS member states and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.

The scale of the forum can be judged by the number of participating countries. Representatives of security agencies and special services were sent to the forum by 20 countries. The main purpose of the meeting is to share experiences and unite even more in the fight against terrorists, who are not just awake, but also trying to intensify their destructive and radical activities.

"The enemy must be defeated together" is the key phrase of the head of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov. He was supported by colleagues from the Commonwealth and SCO countries.

By helping each other, it is possible to fight terrorists and extremists much more effectively. The situation is tense, experts admitted. Criminals are trying to recruit more and more supporters into their ranks and use modern means. The Internet is in the first place - terrorist organizations even have their own staff of bloggers who lure young people into their ranks, first of all.

"Under the influence of radical ideas, the younger generation of our states is easily recruited and then sent to hot spots. The transfer of recruits to Syria and Afghanistan remains relevant. This circumstance directly threatens the security of the SCO and CIS member states," said Abdusalom Azizov, Chairman of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan.

The staff of the CIS Antiterrorist Center and the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure are doing a lot of work to combat terrorism and extremism. The conference venue, which takes place at the Palace of Forums in Tashkent, united these two reputable international organizations.

"In the Commonwealth countries in 2023, attempts were made to commit more than 300 terrorist crimes, including 195 terrorist acts. The vast majority were suppressed by the competent authorities at the preparation stage, which made it possible to prevent numerous casualties and minimize material damage. Over 2,100 criminals have been brought to criminal responsibility. Plans to form a terrorist underground and destabilize the situation in the CIS countries have been thwarted," said Yevgeny Sysoev, head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center.

Scientists and teachers work within the framework of the conference. At one of the sites, they discussed how to train specialists in the field of combating terrorism.

On September 5, the active phase of the joint anti-terrorist exercise of the Commonwealth states "Vostok-Antiterrorism 2024" will take place at the training ground of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan. Special services units will show skills in freeing hostages and neutralizing terrorists, as well as work out actions to stop mass riots.
