The news was reported by the Xinhua agency. Health authorities in Pernambuco state stated that the teenager was swimming with friends despite warning signs and the frequent recording of shark attacks in the area.

Witnesses said the shark attacked from behind, causing severe injuries. The boy was taken to a hospital in Olinda, but he passed away due to significant blood loss.

According to the State Committee for Monitoring Shark Incidents, there have been 82 shark attacks in Pernambuco since 1992, 27 of which were deadly.
