Japan's main meteorological satellite is out of order

The main Japanese weather tracking satellite Himawari-9 (Sunflower-9) partially failed and stopped transmitting some images.

As the Report reports with reference to TASS, this was reported by the national Meteorological Office.

It is noted that problems arose when transmitting images related to the fixation of infrared radiation from the Earth's surface.

At the same time, according to the agency, satellite devices related to the transmission of warnings about the movement of typhoons, heavy rains, heavy winds, sea waves, etc. are functioning normally. The Meteorological Department admitted that it does not yet know the cause of the breakdown and cannot tell when it can be eliminated.

Himawari is a family of geostationary satellites, the first of which was launched in 1977. In addition to Japan, the meteorological departments of East and Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand use data from these devices.
