The Danish logistics company Maersk plans to deliver cargo from the Georgian port of Poti to the cities of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This is reported by the Polish edition Trans.info.

Maersk intends to launch cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor, which will connect China and European countries. The intermodal service will be provided every week.

The Georgian port of Poti will receive goods from Europe, the USA and the Far East. Then they are delivered by rail to the port of Baku. Then the cargo goes through the Caspian Sea to the Kazakh port of Aktau, from where it is already redirected to the cities of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

In the future, it is possible to connect Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan to the route.

Maersk notes that in case of disruption of the railway running to Baku, it is possible to use the capacities of trucks involved in the supply chain of the countries.

In 2022, Uzbekistan increased the volume of cargo transportation through Georgia by 72%. In addition, Uzbekistan intends to build or lease terminals and warehouses in Georgian ports for a long-term lease.
