Issues of the global environmental agenda were discussed

A number of significant meetings took place on the sidelines of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which takes place from December 2 to 13 in Riyadh.

One of them was a meeting between Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Shukurov, representatives of the FAO office in Uzbekistan and Annasse Aissami, Vice President for Operations of the Islamic Development Bank. The discussions focused on strengthening partnerships and exploring new opportunities for cooperation to address major global challenges. The main topics for discussion included increasing the mechanization of agriculture, strengthening resilience to climate change, and advancing research to create sustainable and transformative solutions in the agricultural sector.

The conference will continue until December 13. Key issues remain at the center of discussions, such as accelerating the restoration of degraded lands by 2030, increasing resilience to increasing droughts and sand and dust storms, restoring soil health and expanding food production taking into account natural factors. The issues of ensuring the right to land, strengthening the role of land in solving climate problems and preserving biodiversity, as well as opening up new economic opportunities, including creating decent jobs for young people in the field of land use, are also being considered.
