In response to the global threat of the outbreak of monkey pox, Russia is taking decisive measures to protect the health of the population of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.
On August 26, an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Heads of Authorized Bodies in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the EAEU Member States, chaired by the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation Anna Popova, discussed a set of measures to counter the spread of dangerous infection.
The participants of the meeting, including representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, assessed the risk of spreading smallpox in the region as low, however, stressed the importance of timely prevention. Countries have tightened sanitary and quarantine controls at borders and are taking other necessary measures.
Special attention was paid to the issue of providing laboratory diagnostics of smallpox in monkeys. In this regard, the Russian side decided to transfer the test systems developed by the Federal Budgetary Institution of Science, the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology "Vector" of Rospotrebnadzor, to partners in the EAEU.
The first sets of test systems will be delivered to Uzbekistan this week.
